Although every boxing fan is looking forward to all the action this coming weekend it's worth noting that next week we get two mid-week world title fights in Japan. One of those will see Yukinori Oguni's (19-1-1, 7) [小國 以載] defend his IBF Super Bantamweight title against mandatory challenger Ryosuke Iwasa (23-2, 15) [岩佐 亮佑] in Osaka, in a really good looking match up.
Today, ahead of that bout, Oguni took part in a public work out alongside trainer and former world champion Yusuke Kobori [小堀 佑介].
At the session Oguni sttaed that he felt like the challenger in the build up to the fight, and apparently he sees Iwasa as a 60-40 favourite for the bout, despite being the champion coming into this bout. In preparation for the bout he has been working on counter-measures to Iwasa's southpaw stance and has dome more than 150 rounds of sparring for the contest, including a number with Cuban fighter Yoanris Salinas who he also sparred with ahead of the Jhonathan Guzman bout last year.
As for the actual training Oguni did 2 rounds of 2 minuites lighting sparring with Kobori, shadowed boxed for a couple of rounds and hit the speed ball whilst looking ultra-relaxed, and calm. In fact so relaxed was the champion that he joked with a Paprika, mocking himself and the green pepper incident from the press announcement of the fight.
For those wanting to watch the fight it will be on TBS on September 13th as part of a double header along with a WBO Light Flyweight title bout between unbeaten champion Kosei Tanaka (9-0, 5) [田中恒成] Thai challenger Palangpol CP Freshmart (14-1, 8) [คู่เอก พลังพล ซีพีเฟรชมาร์ท].
