Earlier today fight fans at the Korakuen Hall had a low key show with a few notable names on it.
The main event saw former Japanese Bantamweight title challenger Tatsuya Takahashi (26-6-5, 19) [高橋 竜也] extend his current unbeaten run to 11 fights as he stopped Thai Rungpetch Saithonggym (0-3) in 3 rounds.
The bout was a total mismatch, with the Thai being dropped several times before the referee had seen enough and called a halt to the procedings. Now we know that Takahashi will return to the ring in July, and will be hunting a second Japanese title fight later in the year.
Although the main event was a mismatch the chief support bout was a much more intriguing match up as veteran Spice Matsushita (17-9-1, 2) [スパイシー松下] battled 20 year old Yuichiro Kasuya (9-1-1, 1) [粕谷 雄一郎]. Sadly for Kasuya it a case of experience over youth with Matsushita scoring an 8 round split deicison over the previously unbeaten Kasuya.
For Matsushita the win is huge and should put him in the mix for a title fight later in the year. For Kasuya things aren't bleak as such, but he's now had a draw and a loss in his last two bouts, and will have no real momentum ahead of his August 23rd bout against Izuki Tomioka (2-0) [富岡樹], in the Lightweight Japanese Youth final.
