Lee, also known as Retsuri Lee, was best known for his stunning upset of Thailand's Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym in 2010 to claim the WBA world title at 122lbs. Unfortunately Lee, a Korean-Japanese fighters, failed to ever really build on that win and lost the belt in his first defence as he was out pointed by Akifumi Shimoda.
Following the loss to Shimoda things didn't really go well in the ring for Lee who went 3-2-1 (2) afterwards. Although he did claim the OPBF Featherweight title, with a victory over Shogo Ishikawa, he lost the belt in his first defence dropping a decision to Hisashi Amagasa.
The decision to have been made by Lee's gym who recommended that he should retire in February. It seems that they have effectively said they have no plans for him and it seems unlikely that Lee himself will return to the ring despite not formally announcing it himself.
We would like to with Lee all the best in his future. His career might not have been one of the best but his fight with Poonsawat was one of, if not the, best Super Bantamweight fight in 2010 and one of the biggest upsets of the year. He had his moment in the sun and that's something so many other fighters wish they could have done.
