The unbeaten 22 year old looked to control the pace in the opening round with his jab, and did have success in the opening stages with his lead hand doing well to control the aggression of Yamamoto. It wasn't long until Yamamoto began to cut the distance and made the most of his experience, and worked well when he got inside.
In the middle rounds the crowd got behind Uehara and helped lift him to fighting punch for punch with Yamamoto. The crowd then continued to push their man on, with Uehara taking the final round, which could well have been in the most important of the bout.
At the final bell There wasn't a lot to pick between them, but Uehara's good start proved to be the ifference, with the unbeaten man claiming the decision, thanks to scores of 79-75. 79-94 and 78-74.
After ther bout the talk from Uehara's team was of title fights coming in 2018. It's unclear what title he would be chasing, but it's nice to see him and his team lookign towards a big 2018.
