Earlier today news emerged from Thailand of a nasty car smash involving former Thai amateur star Worapoj Petchkoom, who appears to be have been very fortunate not to have been left with serious injuries.
The 34 year old first made his name in the late 1990's with the first of 4 gold medal wins in the Southeast Asian Games, winning the first in 1999. His dominance of the competition saw him winning the same title in 2003, 2005 and 2007. As well as the SEA gold medals he was also one pf the top fighters in the whole of Asia winning a silver in the Asian games in 2006 and a gold in 2010.
Although well known in the Asia area Worapoj's real success came in the 2004 Olympics where he claimed a silver medal, losing in the final to Cuban sensation Guuillermo Rigondeaux.
From what we understand the former fighter was shaken up the crash but was left relatively unharmed, despite the mess of his car. He put his good fortune down to the vehicle, a ford focus, which he described as having a tough body.
