Last night on a Shobox card Filipino fighters hard a night to forget, going 0-3 with all 3 defeats coming by stoppage.
One of those was 26 year old Recky Dulay (11-7, 8), who was stopped in 4 rounds by the excellent Cris Reyes (9-0, 8). Reyes, who looks to be a real one to watch, has now stopped 8 in a row after going the distance on his debut and the 20 year old Welterweight is quite clearly one for the future. Dulay on the other hand has now lost 4 in a row, and 5 of his last 6.
Things were a little bit better for Elias Joaquino (12-5-2, 6), who lasted into the 6th round with the touted Dylan Price (10-0, 7). On paper this one looked interesting, if you read into the Boxrec rating system, but in reality Price was always going to be too good and it showed. It's unfortunate here that Joaquino was in with a special talent, much like Dulay.
Talking about special talents, and the misfortune of facing one, Jessie Cris Rosales (22-4-1, 10) was really shown what a special prospect can do, as Xavier Martinez (15-0, 11) took him out in 21 seconds! Martinez pressed from the off and landed a brutal left hook-straight right that sent Rosales down hard. Referee Vic Drakulich swiftly waved off the bout, stopping the action. Without trying to hype Martinez up too much, he is one of North America's best kept secrets, and has now stopped his last 7. Keep an eye out for this talented youngster.
Earlier today we were sent the full bout card for the MP Promotions show on March 23rd.
The card will be headlined by an IBF Bantamweight world title eliminator, as Michael Dasmarinas (28-2-1, 19) and Kenny Demecillo (14-4-2, 8) battle to become the mandatory for the IBF title. This bout had previously been announced for a different show, in Singapore, that appears to have fallen through.
A second world title eliminator will be at Minimumweight, and will see Samuel Salva (16-0, 10) taking on Rene Mark Cuarto (16-1-1, 9).
Other bouts of note on this show will see Ronnie Baldonado (13-1-1, 9) battle Elias Joaquino (12-3-2, 6), in a mouth watering domestic battle and another great domestic clash between Orlie Silvestre (12-5-1, 8) and Joel Taduran (8-10-2, 2).
On the international stage we'll see Singaporean fighter Muhamad Ridhwan (11-1, 8) and Landy Cris Leon (11-18-5, 5) battle in a supposed showcase for Ridhwan and a great match up touted Chinese prospect Lei Wang (2-0, 1) taking on the under-rated Adam Diu Abdulhamid (13-7, 5) in a really tough looking bout.
