Earlier today fight fans in Astana, Kazakhstan, had plenty to celebrate as a number of Kazakh fighters picked up wins, with some really shining in impressive fashion, and other being forced to work hard for victory in an interesting card
The card was shown, in part, on Fite.TV, who broadcast the show in English on a very affordable PPV model. The Fite.TV portion of the show featured 5 bouts in total.
The first of those was a show case for Nursultan Zhanabayev (3-0, 2), as he stopped Brazilian Alex Sandro Duarte (13-2-1, 10) in side a round. The Brazilian was down within seconds, and was bullied and beaten until the bout stopped.
The second bout was also a mismatch as Ruslan Myrsatayev (4-0, 4) battered the under-sized Andres Matias (5-1, 5) into submission. The visitor showed little in terms of out put but had little quit in him, until finally being worn down but the pitbull like Myrsatayev in round 4.
Heart was the order of the day and that was proven when Zhanibek Alimkhanuly (2-0, 1) spent 6 rounds using Gilberto Pereira dos Santos (14-6, 10) as a human punch bag. dos Santos showed his toughness and refused to ever go down, but was out boxed, out moved, out punched and out-everything but the former amateur standout, who tried everything to get the stoppage.
In an entertaining scrap Zhankosh Turarov (22-0, 15) over-came Argentinian puncher Bruno Leonardo Romay (21-5, 18) in a fun fight, but one thta seemed to show that Turarov was a long, long way from being the next star of Kazakh boxing. The unbeaten fighter showed touches of genius, but then followed those up by dropping his hands, eating shots he should have avoided and failing to build on his better moments. It was a clear win, with all 3 judges scoring it 97-93, but it could, and perhaps should, have been a shut out.
In the main event Kanat Islam (25-0, 20) did a demolision job on the gutsy and insanely tough Brandon Cook (18-1, 11), who was finally saved by the referee in round 9. Cook had been dropped in the opening round, as well as rounds 5 and 8, he had suffered nasty facial swelling from early in the contest and had taken a beating until the eventual stoppage, having proven himself as an incredibly tough man, but one who lacked the fire power to get Islam's respect.
Away from the Fite.TV broadcast were wins for Ali Akhmedov (9-0, 7), Aidos Yerbossynuly (7-0, 6), Meiirim Nursultanov (4-0, 3) and Dimash Niyazov (12-0-3, 5), with only Niyazov being taken the distance.
