The former world title challenger was up against old adversary Toyoto Shiraishi (25-10-3, 12) [白石 豊土] in what was a make or break fight for both men, and both knew it.
The fight started well for Shiraishi who showed some good boxing early on, though was caught by some round house shots from Akaho who, whilst showing less skill, was landing the heavier and more telling blows. Despite landing the heavier shots it was Akaho's face that was showing the scars of war, with his left eye marking up noticeably.
Akaho's power would be the telling difference however and as Shiraishi slowed down he was being tagged more frequently with Akaho dropping him in round 6 and then clearly winning the final two rounds to secure the win, with the cards reading 77-76, 78-74 and an inexplicably wide 79-72.
