It's not often we get to talk about boxers from Tajikistan but today we're glad to be able to do a small report on Tajik fighter Davron Makhmadov (0-2) who appears to winning the most important fight of his life.
The 26 year old, originally from Dushanbe, suffered a head injury in Cologne, Germany, in March 2017 whilst training for a bout in the Netherlands. Due to the injury he would spend significant time in a coma.
Recently however Tajik sources have reported that Makhmadov has awoken, with his father Alimjon Makhmadov being quoted as saying his son is now "crying, coughing" and that he has "gained weight" increasing from 40KG's to 70KG's.
Sadly Alimjon Makhmadov hasn't been with his son in recent times due to his visa expiring, and the cost of visiting has run up to around €15,000 since the accident. However a friend of Alimjon's has been visiting Davron and running a video link with the former fighter. Thankfully Davron did have medical insurance.
We'd like to wish Davron the best in his recovery, and we're really glad to hear that he has awoken from his coma. It's clear that he stills needs a lot of time to rehab and recover, but the news has certainly been welcome positive news, especially in the wake of the sad news that Adonis Stevenson is now in a coma following his recent fight with Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
