This past Saturday's Promociones Del Pueblo show in Mexico is one that has been fraught with controversy through out, though it appears that, despite the being over, the controversy isn't yet done.
It appears that the bout between former world champion Tomas "Gusano" Rojas and the little known Vergel Nebran was finished off with a clear, albeit accidental, low blow from Rojas. This has seen outrage from promoter/manager Gabriel Elorde who feels his man unfairly treated and that the ending effectively destroyed his man's chances.
Although we, like almost everyone else, expected Nebran to be stopped by Rojas, the Filipino give the former champion a genuinely tough bout and it sounds that Rojas was tiring going in to the final few rounds. This was a pleasant surprise considering the known quality of Rojas and we'd like to see Nebran rewarded with a second big opportunity.
The KO was just the final in a long list of issues regarding the card. Firstly it was alleged that Nebran had signed to fight Julio Ceja, not Rojas, secondly the poster was flat out inaccurate with a trio of Filipino's misrepresented on the poster and thirdly this KO.
The poster, which was rather laughable as seen above, saw the promoters using pictures of Milan Melindo and Donnie Nietes to advertise their shows. This issue has apparently been sent to the GAB with the problem apparently being looked in to domestically. Unfortunately the GAB won't be able to do anything about the KO, which you can see below courtesy of boxeocolombiano. For those wanting to find the controversial shot, the KO blow can be seen at around 40 seconds in and then repeated several times.
