Earlier today Japanese boxing gym Celes Gym announced that their fighter Ryosuke Iwasa (22-2, 14) [岩佐 亮佑] would be returning to the ring on November 19th to face off in an IBF Super Bantamweight eliminator against Luis Rosa (22-0-0-2, 10), with the men essentially fighting for a #1 ranking.
Coming in to the bout Iwasa is the highest ranked IBF contender at the weight, due to vacancies filling the #1 and #2 places, however he will be travelling outside of Japan for just the second time in hie career. Those who remember his international debut last year may well remember that he looked less than great as he was outboxed, and later stopped, by Lee Haskins in the UK. Since then however Iwasa has moved up in weight and let his body fill out and scored a trio of wins back in Tokyo.
The unbeaten Rosa on the other hand is ranked #8 and will be fighting for the first time since he had a No Contest with Luis Hinojosa back in June. To date he has fought all 21 bouts in the US with his best win being a decision win over Luis Orlando Del Valle back in May 2014. Although unbeaten he is relatively untested and will be facing possibly his best opponent so far.
The winner of the bout will become the leading contender for the monstrously hard hitting Jonathan Guzman, who interestingly beat Iwasa's good friend Shingo Wake for the IBF world title earlier this year.
