Today it was announced that the champion would be facing talented Japanese based Venezuelan veteran Juan Jose Landaeta (27-8-1, 21).
The bout will be Taguchi's third defense of the title that he won at the end of 2014 and will see him face a man familiar with Japanese fans. In fact the bout with be Landaeta's 6th in Japan, where he has fought Koki Kameda, twice, and Yutaka Niida losing all 3 of those bouts for WBA world title.
Aged 37 Landaeta is an "old man" for a Light Flyweight but is a genuinely talented one who hasn't aged badly at all. He has never been stopped, has very respectable power and very under-rated skills. Sadly however he is 2-1 in the last 6 years, and is actually 2-2 in the last 7 years and hasn't really "earned" a world title bout.
The bout will be one of 3 world title bouts on the show, with another being the WBA Super Featherweight bout between "super" champion Takashi Uchiyama's (24-0-1, 20) [内山 高志] and WBA "interim" champion Jezreel Corrales (19-1-0-1, 7) as well as a WBA Super Flyweight title fight featuring Kohei Kono (31-8-1, 13) [河野 公平].
