Those talks have now finalised and Uchiyama will, as previously reported, face Corrales on April 27th at the Ote City Gymnasium. This was confirmed this morning by a press conference held by Watanabe Gym.
Watanabe didn't just confirm the Uchiyama Vs Corrales bout but also confirmed that the show would indeed be a world title triple header with WBA Light Flyweight champion Ryoichi Taguchi (23-2-1, 10) [田口良一] and WBA Super Flyweight champion Kohei Kono (31-8-1, 13) [河野 公平] both defending their titles on the show.
At the press conference neither Taguchi or Kono had their opponents confirmed but it was announced that TV Tokyo would be showing their card in prime time. In fact the show will essentially kick off the Golden Week, a week of Japanese holidays that begin on April 28th.
The winner of the Uchiyama Vs Corrales bout will be expected to face Javier Fortuna (29-0-1-1,21) later in the year. Originally the WBA had ordered a bout between Uchiyama and Fortuna however Fortuna had unrealistic demands which forced Uchiyama's team to request a bout with Corrales in the interim.
This is a particularly notable defense, historically, for Uchiyama as a win will put him just 1 defense behind the Japanese record of 13 successful defenses held by former WBA Light Flyweight champion Yoko Gushiken [具志堅 用高].
For those who haven't seen Corrales, we have included his most recent, against Juan Antonio Rodriguez, bout below, along with Uchiyama's, a bout against Oliver Flores.
