Earlier today saw the East Japan Boxing Association announce their fighter awards for the month of December, naming their MVP, Fighting Sprit and State of the Art award winners for the month.
The MVP for the month was Japanese Super Featherweight champion Kenichi Ogawa (20-1, 16) [尾川 堅一], who recorded his third defense of the title as he defeated former title holder Rikki Naito (15-2, 5) [内藤 律樹] with a narrow decision. The bout was a rematch of the bout that first saw Ogawa claim the title and saw him end the year as the champion.
The Fighting Spirit award was won by Japanese Lightweight champion Shuhei Tsuchiya (22-4, 18) [土屋 修平] following his stoppage win over Masashi Noguchi (12-6-1, 6) [野口 将志] to claim the title. The heavy handed Tsuchiya stopped Noguchi in 3 rounds to claim the title, in his first domestic title fight.
The State of the Art award winner was youngster Tsubasa Koura (9-0, 6) [小浦 翼] who made a statement as he took out former world title challenger Jeffrey Galero (14-3, 7) in just 2 rounds and made the fighters at 105lbs sit up and take notice.
The fighters will recieve their awards on February 4th at the Dynamic Glove show being held at the Korakuen Hall.
