We are disappointed to learn that the OPBF Super Featherweight title fight between Thailand's reigning champion Jomthong Chuwatana (7-0, 4) and Japanese challenger Koseki Nakama (17-4, 8) has been delayed, again.
The fight, which was originally scheduled for May 24th was pushed back to July 12th to coincide with a special show on the same day. Unfortunately it appears that some over-sight has been made and the July 12th date for the fight has now had to be canned with the fight expected to be re-arranged for a further date.
It's a shame that Jomthong, who has been competing in May Thai recently, has had his return to boxing delayed again. It's now well over a year since he last fought in boxing and his dream of becoming a dual Muay Thai and boxing champion does seem to have lost the momentum that it had built in 2012 and early 2013.
As for Nakama this will be a big disappointment. He has now been out of the ring since October 2013 and will be starting to feel a bit rusty himself as well as frustrated at the changes in date of the fight, especially considering that the fight no longer has a pencilled in date at all.
We're hoping that the fighters can either reschedule the fight again for this coming fall or Jomthong, who we do like, will vacate rather than continue to hold the title at ransom. There are a great number of emerging Super Featherweights, such as Daiki Kaneko, and it seems unfair for the title to be tied up rather than allowing the fighters who are active to fight for it.
