It's been a funny few weeks for for Filipino fighter Jerry Nardo (20-6, 11). At the start of the year he lost a split decision to Jason Redondo in Cebu and a few weeks later it seemed he was set to get a shot at Jaesung Lee on March 1st, after Lee's original opponent, Jimmy Paypa, was given an OPBF Super Bantamweight title fight against the world ranked Shingo Wake.
Having been preparing for a bout with Lee it's fair to say that Nardo will have been disappointed by the fact that the show that bout was cancelled when the show it was expected on fell apart with just a few weeks notice.
Thankfully for Nardo his training won't have been for nothing after all as it's been confirmed he will be in action on March 14th, just 13 days after the supposed Lee bout, in a possibly career defining bout.
Unfortunately for Nardo he will be up against it as he travels to California to fight the unbeaten and heavy handed Saul Rodriguez (16-0-1, 13).
Rodriguez, dubbed "Kid Dinamita", is a much touted American prospect who has stopped his last 8 opponents and shown a combination of spiteful power, promising skills and nasty aggression. Those tools will be tested by Nardo though it's hard to see how the Filipino wins, especially with this bout taking place in Rodriguez's home state of California.
