Ioka, stepping up to Flyweight for the first time in his career seemed to suggest that he was all but ready for the up coming IBF title fight with Thailand's Amnat Ruenroeng (12-0, 5). His weight was spot on, 2 KG's over the 112lb limit and was going to be lost easily come the time of the weigh in on Tuesday.
Although the work out wasn't all that impressive it seemed clear that Ioka, and sparring partner Sho Ishida, had been told to work on specific things rather than go out all guns blazing. As a it was a very controlled session which would have wowed nobody watching it though it was obvious that neither man was trying to wow anyone, it was a matter of putting the final touches on to the preparation.
Ioka, who recently had his national record for few fights to become a world champion broken by Naoya Inoue, will be attempting to become the quickest fighter to become a 3 weight world champion when he battles Amnat on May 7th on a show televised by TBS.
