Over the weekend we reported that MP Boxing, in association with Sampson Boxing, had sent out contracts to IBF Super Flyweight champion McJoe Arroyo (17-0, 8), of Puerto Rico, and Filipino Jerwin Ancajas (24-1-1, 16) ahead of a proposed mandatory title defense on April 16th at the Strike Coliseum in Bacoor City. It now seems that some of those associated with the show have hopes to make the card even better.
The proposition has been made to the promoter, Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao, to try and secure another world title bout for the show.
The bout being mentioned as the co-main event is the WBO Bantamweight title fight between current champion Pungluang Sor Singyu (52-3, 35) [ผึ้งหลวง ส.สิงห์อยู่] and mandatory challenger Marlon Tapales (28-2, 11).
A meeting between Pungluang and Tapales was secured last week when Pungluang made the first defense of his title against Tapales' countryman, Jetro Pabustan. For Tapales his shot was secured late last year when he stunned Japanese prospect Shohei Omori, who was stopped in the second round of their WBO final eliminator.
The bout would make for a great for a great co-feature bout along the Arroyo-Anacajas contest and it would make for a fantastic show over-all. However this particular bout is expected to see a big bid come Pungluang's team who have made it clear that they want to secure home advantage for their fighter, who has lost in 3 of his 4 trips outside of Thailand. If it goes to a purse bid then it's almost certain bids will have to be much higher than the $25,000 that Samspon paid fir the Arroyo-Ancajas bout.
Although there does appear to be wrangling between the two camps money does talk and a large offer to Pungluang's team could see him travel to the Philippines for his second bout there. His first bout in the country saw him becoming a world champion for the first time in his career, as he stopped AJ Banal, and the country will certainly have fond memories for him, though he has stated that he prefers fighting at home whilst Tapales is 4-1 on the road, including the win over Omori.
We have included Pungluang's bout with Pabustan and Tapales's bout with Omori below.
