The bout in question will see former Japanese Lightweight champion Akihiro Kondo (21-6-1, 10) battle against Thai visitor Patomsuk Pathompothong (29-3-1, 18) in what will be the headline bout of "Fighting Bee 13".
With a record of 2-3 in the last 12 months it would be easy to write off Kondo as a fighter on the slide. Despite that recent form he is rarely in a bad fight and has been competitive in all 3 recent losses whilst also notching a notable win over former world title challenger Jimrex Jaca. At his best, back in 2009, Kondo scored back-to-back wins over Ryuji Migaki and Yoshitaka Kato, in what was the first of two meeting between the two men. In 2013 Kondo retired before returning in 2014 and coming up short against Nihito Arakawa on his returned, but showed desire to continue fighter which he has done with mixed success, including a loss to Ricky Sismundo last time out.
As for Patomsuk he was himself beaten last time out when he was stopped by China's Ik Yang in Macau. The bout sent Yang towards an IBF world title fight and left Patomsuk needing to rebuild, something he'll be hoping to do here. Although not the most talented fighter out there Patomsuk did give Takayuki Hosokawa a very tough time in October 2013, in what is Patomsuk's only visit to Japan so far. Although he lost last time out he'll almost certainly feel that he's in an easy bout this time around than he was against Yang, who is naturally bigger and stronger than Kondo.
At the moment we're awaiting the announcement of more bouts from the card but this is a really good looking main event even if the bout is a long way below world level.
For those who haven't seen Patomsuk Vs Yang we've included it below.
