Last week Chinese MMA fighter Xu Xiaodong [徐晓冬] set the national fighting circuit on fire as he battered Tai Chi master Wei Lei in 10 seconds in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. Following the fight Xu essentially called out every fighter in China, suggesting he could beat several Tai Chi fighters one after the other in an attempt to prove that modern fighting methods were more effective than traditional Chinese fighting styles.
The reports from China is that a number of Tai Chi experts are willing to take Xu up on his offer for a fighter, after he essentially called their style out dated and played it down.
As well as calling out Tai Chi fighter's Xu also called out Chinese boxing star, and current WBO Flyweight champion, Zou Shiming (9-1, 2) [邹市明], who has stated that he has no interest in a fight with Xu, despite the fact Xu has offered to donate his purse to charitable causes if the two men do have a fight.
Zou stated that his reasons for not fighting Xu were that the MMA fighter isn't a professional boxer and that the two worlds are a million miles apart. It would also seem clear that there would be a significant size advantage, which even Xu himself admitted would be the case. Zou also stated that he was preparing for his first world title defense and was happy doing what he was doing rather than being involved with Xu.
