Earlier today it was revealed that Chinese Heavyweight slugger Zhang Junlong (13-0, 13)* [张君龙] would be back in the ring on August 7th as he looked to continue his unbeaten KO run. The exciting Chinese puncher will be matched against the experienced and heavy handed Brazilian Julio Cesar Dos Santos (30-6, 27).
The Chinese Heavyweight, who currently holds a WBA world ranking, will be looking to secure his 14th straight stoppage win and keep a run going that dates back to October 2012 and includes notable stoppage wins against the likes of Jason Gavern, Shawn Cox and George Arias. This isn't really a step upwards form those bouts but is a lateral step against a man who, like Zhang, believes in his power.
Dos Santos is a 38 year old who has claimed various titles through his career, including the Brazilian Cruiserweight title back in 2009 and the "Interim" WBO Latino Cruiserweight title in 2011. Whilst not a great fighter he has gone in with some notable names, losing to Dmytro Kucher, Tony Bellew, Micki Nielsen, Isa Akberbayev and most recently Dmitry Kudryashov. Through his 36 fight career he has been stopped twice, by Kudryashov in 4 rounds and by Bellew in 5.
Whilst the Brazilian isn't the most durable he has shown his toughness and power and will be a good step for the Chinese fighter who will be hoping to secure his world ranking and move towards a potentially big fight later in the year, or early in 2017. Possibly for some variation of the WBA Heavyweight "world" title.
