The press conference this morning announced that the two fighters will meet on September 13th at the EDION Arena Osaka, in Osaka City.
For Oguni the bout will be his first defense since his career defining victory over Guzman, in what was one of the biggest shocks of 2016 and he upset the heavier handed and unbeaten champion. The bout will also be his first in Osaka since a 2010 win over Koki Saka at the IMP Hall, amazing that was just Oguni's second bout and was more than 7 years ago!
As for Iwasa the bout will be his second world title fight, following a loss in the UK to Lee Haskins in an IBF Bantamweight title fight, interestingly it will be his first bout in Osaka and will be his first title fight against a fellow Japanese fighter since he took the OPBF Bantamweight titlefrom Hiroki Shiino.
More details on the card are expected to be announced shortly, such as undercard and telivision details, but given that both are based in Tokyo and have fought many of their recent bouts in Tokyo it would seem clear that this won't be the only big bout on the card, and there is talk that it could also feature Kazuto Ioka (22-1, 13) [井岡一翔], who headlined the card that saw Oguni win his world title, defending his WBA Flyweight title.
