Yesterday Japanese boxing was hit by the passing of one of it's most experienced trainer, Toshio Itokawa.
Mr Itokawa had been one of the most significant figures at the Kadoebihoseki gym, which he helped found in the 1970's. His work with the gym had helped the development of numerous fighters over that time, including current fighters such as Yoshitaka Kato and Kyotaro Fujimoto, as well as former world champions, such as Yusuke Kobori.
Mr Itokawa was admitted to hospital on January 31st and was sadly taken off life support yesterday morning. According to sources he worked up until he was admitted to hospital with our sources indicating he was working at the gym the day before he was taken in.
Japanese boxing and particularly the Kadoebihoseki gym will miss Mr Itokawa who will have his have his vigil on February 22nd and his funeral the following day.
We would like to wish Mr Itokawa's friends, family and colleague our full condolences.
