In late 2014 our attention was grabbed by an unheralded fighter, Tatsuya Takahashi (22-6-4, 16) [高橋竜也]. He earned our respect in a losing effort against the then Japanese Bantamweight champion Kentaro Masuda [益田 健太郎] and since then we have followed him closely.
This past Monday the gutsy and tough Takahashi was in the ring again as he recorded a 4th win in 5, following that Masuda bout, by out pointing Tonko Nakagawa (13-8-2, 5) [中川とん虎] over 8 hard fought rounds.
From the early stages it seemed that Takahashi was the more skilled, and he made the most of his jab. Despite the good, sharp jab Takahashi couldn't stop Nakagawa from feeling he had a chance to turn it around and as a result the two men were both forced to take some bombs in a very entertaining bout that saw both showing signs of damage,
At the end of the 8 rounds the bout seemed to be a clear, but difficult, win for Takahashi who was rightfully given the win on all 3 cards, with scores of 77-76, 78-74 and 80-72.
