Earlier today in Tokyo saw a press conference being held by Watanabe following their New Year's Eve show. Among those attending the event was WBA Super Featherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama (22-0-1, 18) who talking to the press following his 9th successful defence.
Uchiyama, popularly known as "KO Dynamite", celebrates 5 years as a world champion later this month though it's fair to say that 2014 was his most forgettable since winning his title as he fought just once, defending his belt against tough but limited Argentinian Israel Perez.
Thankfully with 2014 behind him it seems that Uchiyama is really looking forward to a better 2015 and has said that he hopes to fight 3 times this coming year.
Whilst no opponents are yet set in paper there was talk of a rematch between Uchiyama and WBC champion Takashi Miura (28-2-2, 21). That bout seems to be one of the on going saga's in Japanese boxing though hopefully we will get it this year and find out which of the two men really is the #1 Super Featherweight on the planet. Thankfully it seems both are open to it and that it's between the teams to sort out the terms of the fight.
Fingers crossed that we do get to see a busier year for KO Dynamite in 2014 as he's too exciting to sit on the sidelines wasting his career away.
