Last night fans around the world had the chance to see an intriguing WBC "silver" Bantamweight title bout between WBC Super Flyweight champion Suriyan Sor Rungvisai (46-7-1, 23) [สุริยัน ศ.รุ่งวิสัย] and former WBA Bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno (36-4-1, 12), with the two men facing off for the right to become the WBC world title mandatory challenger.
The bout pitted Suriyan's relentless pressure and bull dog tenacity against Moreno's cat like reflexes and trade mark slipperiness. Sadly for the Thai it was the slippery work of Moreno thjat seemed to dominate much of the bout, with the Panamanian score a decisive victory over the Thai.
The bout, which took place in Panama City at the Arena Roberto Duran, started well for Moreno and in round 2 he scored a knockdown. Although Suriyan came back from that set back with some genuine fight, and gave Moreno some real questions to answer, the visitor just couldn't ever ask the right questions with Moreno almost always having a good answer to everything the Thai did.
In the end the bout proved to be a competitive, but clear, win for Moreno with scores of 116-111, and 117-110, twice.
for Moreno the bout secures him one of his best wins, and he has plenty of good wins, as well as a likely rematch with WBC world champion Shinsuke Yamanaka [山中 慎介]. Sadly for Suriyan the loss sees his record outside of Thailand go to 0-5-1.
