Yesterday evening saw more boxing in the 2016 Olympics with several more Asian fighters in action.
At 49 KG's things went badly for Azerbaijan's Rufat Huseynov, who was beaten by Namibia's Matias Hamunyela in a unanimous decision.
At 60KG's, where Daisuke Narimatsu of Japan had already qualified, Asian fighters had mixed fortunes. Uzbek fighter Hurshid Tajibayev got through, as he took a decision over Qatari Hakan Erseker, and he was joined by Anvar Yunusov of Tajikistan, who defeated Shan Jun of China.
Sadly however Filipino fighter Charly Suarez of the Philippines was unable to over-come the hotly tipped Brit Joseph Cordina, despite the fact he pushed Cordina very close in a nail biting split decision. The Filipino managed to impress with his losing effort and given that few gave him a chance against the Brit he really did fight well. Strangely Cordina thought he fought the perfect fight and should have won every round, he could be in for a rude awaking later in the tournament if he doesn't tighten up his defense.
