WBA Light Flyweight champion Ryoichi Taguchi (21-2-1, 7) will be making the first defense of his title on May 6th at the Ota City Gymnasium in Tokyo. That bout will see Taguchi battle against Thai veteran Kwanthai Sithmorseng (49-3-1, 26), a former WBA Minimumweight champion.
Ahead of that fight Taguchi took part in a public training session at the Watanabe Gym, also in Tokyo.
In the training session Taguchi sparred a couple of rounds with stablemate Sonin Nihei (5-1-2, 1) and showed off fancy footwork as well as lovely combinations especially on the inside. It was an impressive showing from Taguchi who looked sharp and like he had really developed since he won the title back in December.
As well as the sparring the session also included an interview with the media. This revealed some interesting details, such as the fact that Taguchi had put on a fair bit of weight since winning the title late last year, however that weight has been lost with help of sparring with Akira Yaegashi. He also revealed that he'd had a tooth issue since his last bout, a decision win over Alberto Rossel, and has since had a tooth removed.
He also revealed details relating to his game plan and said that he was hoping to use combinations and to grind down Kwanthai
