We'll admit that we thought Gonzalez had already done this, though with the WBA now confirming it it seems obvious that Gonzalez's time at Light Flyweight is officially over and now the unbeaten power house will be concentrating on the Flyweight division.
Prior to this announcement Gonzalez had been dipping his toes at Flyweight, with 4 of his last 5 bouts coming above the Light Flyweight limit. These have included a very impressive second round blow out of Oscar Blanquet back in November and a 5th round stoppage over Ronald Barrera in a bout made above the Super Flyweight limit.
We now expect Gonzalez to be eying up nothing other than major bouts. With Flyweight being an amazingly tough division there is no way Gonzalez will have another "wasted year" like 2013.
With prospective bouts against WBC champion Akira Yaegashi, WBO/WBA super champion Juan Francisco Estrada, WBA regular champion Juan Carlos Reveco and top contenders including Giovanni Segura, Brian Viloria, Luis Concepcion, Hernan Marquez and recent title challenger Edgar Sosa this looks like being the year that we see just how good Gonzalez really is.
