One of many rumours from Thailand that we've received this week concerns the very interesting prospect Palangpol CP Freshmart (3-0, 3) who has apparently set his sights on IBF Minimumweight champion Katsunari Takayama (26-6-0-1, 10).
Palangpol, one of a number of unbeaten prospects under the CP Freshmart banner, is a former Muay Thai fighter who has been very impressive since his professional boxing debut this January. Since stopping Mongkol Patanakan Gym on debut in 4 rounds he has been matched with experienced Indonesian's in the form of Jack Amisa and Heri Amol, both of whom are very tough foes for novices. Although they were both tough Palangpol stopped both men and gained 15 rounds of top quality experience in the process.
Although he has that experience we're expecting to see Palangpol fighting at least twice more before getting a fight with Takayama. Saying that however Palangpol has been busy in recent months with the Amisa fight being fought in March and the Amol fight coming in May. With that in mind he could well have had 2 if not 3 fights by the end of the year to help him prepare for a Takayama bout and earn a ranking needed to challenger for the title.
Whilst this is still speculation as to how much the Thai is really looking at a Takayama fight as opposed to talking about fighting the best it's great to see the ambition in young Thai's who are wanting to make their mark. With his Muay Thai experience we'd not be shocked at all if Palangpol was completely serious about chasing a fight with "The Lightning Kid".
For those who haven't yet seen Palangpol we've included a video of his bout with Amol below courtesy of dailymotion user AppleBeeAppleLove.
