When Loeffler, the man guiding WBA Middleweight "super" champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27), promised a big co-feature for Golovkin's upcoming title fight with Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51) no one would have expected a genuinely big bout. It seems however that Loeffler has delivered on his promise in a big way.
Earlier today Loeffler announced that the co-feature would be a bout between popular Filipino Nonito Donaire (33-2, 21) and the unbeaten Jamaican Nicholas Walters (24-0, 20). Could we get a bigger and better co-feature?
The bout will be for the WBA Featherweight "super" title and is unarguably one of the best bouts that could be made at 126lbs and may actually be the first step towards getting a single recognised champion at the weight.
With WBO champion Vasyl Lomachenko (2-1, 1) taking on mandatory challenger Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo (52-1, 33) in November the chances are the winner of the Donaire/Walters bout would be matched with the winner of the Lomachneko/Piriyapinyo in 2015 with the winner being recognised as the best fighter in the division.
We've got to be honest this bout may actually be better than the main event!
