Kyotaro Fujimoto to defend Japanese Heavyweight title on Kamikaze 4, but not against Nobuhiro Ishida!
Earlier today it was announced that Japanese Heavyweight champion Kyotaro Fujimoto (9-1, 5), now sporting blue hair, would be returning to the ring on September 10th to defend his Japanese Heavyweight title for a second time. Sadly however he would not be rematching former WBA interim Light Middleweight champion Nobuhiro Ishida (25-10-2, 10) but would instead be facing former opponent Kotatsu Takehara (10-9-3, 4).
Whilst we all know that Takehara gave Fujimoto a very, very, close run back in late 2013 in their first meeting it's fair to say we, and many fans, would have preferred to have seen a rematch with Ishida and not Takehara. That's not to say that this is a bad bout, of course it isn't, and Takegara is, on paper, the better opponent with his #1 JBC ranking but we really did want to see Ishida given a chance at the title, especially considering the way he pushed Fujimoto so close in a bout many felt was won by the man who jumping several weight classes.
Sadly this bout sees Fujimoto getting his way after admitting he didn't want a rematch with Ishida back in May.
This announcement came with a number of other announcements regarding "Kamikaze 4" which we hope to bring you later today.
