Yesterday saw the winners of the monthy Japanese awards for the month of June being announced, and as has been the case quite a few times recently, there was only two awards handed out.
The first of those was the MVP award which was won by the newly unified Japanese Flyweight champion Masayuki Kuroda (27-7-3, 15) [黒田 雅之], who earned the award wit his recent win over Takuya Kogawa (28-5, 14) [粉川 拓也]. The bout, which saw Kuroda unify the proper title with his interim title, was a thrilling contest and really showed his fighting spirit here.
The second of those winners was Japanese Light Welterweight champion Koichi Aso (22-7-1, 15) [麻生興] who claimed the "Fighting Spirit" award whilst making his first defense of the title and stopping Yusuke Konno (11-4, 5) [今野裕介] in what was one of the best bouts in Japan this year. The two traded blows at will in a fight that really deserves a full broadcast at some point, and is a front runner for the Japanese fight of the year.
As you may have realised there was no State of the Art, or Newcomer, winner for the month
