That fight will be a contest between young prospect Yusaku Kuga (11-1-1, 7), a hard hitting fighter from the Watanabe Gym, and Teiken's experienced technician Yasutaka Ishimoto (26-8, 7), who is of course best known for his win over Wilfredo Vazquez Jr in Macau. Not only do we know the two men involved in the fight but we also know that their bout will be held on December 21st at the Korakuen Hall.
The bout may not register outside of Japan as being a good fight but it really is an excellent match up on the domestic stage and pits a veteran against a novice, a novice that we have followed in recent years and been impressed by. It will also help the winner progress and will likely continue the great run of fights that the Japanese fans have had at 122lbs, including the recent bout between Ishimoto and Gakuya Furuhashi. Talking about Furuhashi he may well find himself in the running to face the winner, as could Hinata Maruta, Shun Kubo or Sho Nakazawa, showing just how packed the division is on the Japanese scene.
