Earlier this week former 3-weight world champion Koki Kameda [亀田 興毅] was taken into hospital following the fighter becoming unresponsive in a taxi cab.
The former Light Flyweight, Flyweight and Bantamweight had apparently passed out in the taxi following celebration drinks and as a result was taken to hospital. In hospital Mr Kameda was treat for acute alcohol intoxication, or alcohol poisoning.
The controversial former fighter has since been given the all clear and has apologised to those who were worried about him, whilst making a post on his blog essentially admitting that he had been told off by his father for his "fool" like behaviour.
Although Kameda retired from the sport last year he is still an immensely well known figure in Japanese boxing circles and he still has fans who look up to him as a hero. His recent exploits with alcohol however are likely to hurt that popularity, at least in the short term.
