WBA Minimumweight champion Knockout CP Freshmart (19-0, 7) [น็อคเอาท์ ซีพีเฟรชมาร์ท] has had a bizarrely quiet year whilst the the division has shifted on around him. Now Filipino sources, including the Manilla Bulletin, are reporting that Knockout will be returning to the ring on August 2nd to defend his title against talented Filipino fighter ArAr Andales (10-0, 2).
For the champion the bout will be his first contest of 2019, and his first since beating former champion Byron Rojas in a rather forgettable clash last November. That win over Rojas was the second meeting between the two, with Knockout's first win over the Nicaraguan being the one that saw him the full title after a 20 month reign as the interim champion. It also marked his 6th defense of the belt. Given that Knockout fought 3 times in 2018 his inactivity this year is notable and could be an issue against a young and hungry challenger like Andales.
The little known Filipino is just 19 and until this year had really done almost nothing of note, following his 2017 debut. This past January however he scored a good domestic win over Charlie Malupangue, to claim the WBA Asia title, and followed it up with a career best win in April against Cris Ganoza. Those two wins have opened the door to this fight.
According to the Manilla Bulletin the bout is going to be taking place in Bangkok, and as a result will be Andales' first bout outside of the Philippines.
