Ever since it was officially announced that Kazuto Ioka (16-1, 10) would challenge WBA Flyweight champion Juan Carlos Reveco (35-1, 19) on April 22nd we've seen the Japanese sites and papers filling up with Ioka articles.
A number of those articles were pointing out that a win for Ioka would see him set a world record for the fewest fights to become a 3-weight world champion. From the reports it seems the Guinness Book of World Records will recognise Ioka's achievement, if he's to win. The record of 18 fights to become a 3-weight world champion would break the existing record of Jeff Fenech, who achieved the feat in 20 bouts back in 1988.
The achievement of Ioka, if he is to win, will see him becoming only the second man from Japan to become a 3-weight world champion, following in the footsteps of former TBS fighter Koki Kameda.
A second interesting story, at least in terms of headlines, is that Ioka is training with a "Darth Vader mask".
The headline sounds brilliant but we suspect many will be more familiar with the masks others names, such as altitude mask or Elevation Training Mask. This is apparently the first time Ioka has used on and it's use seems to have tickled both the fighter and the writers.
