WBO Minimumweight champion Katsunari Takayama (31-8-0-1, 12) [高山 勝成] might be in his 30's but he's still a student and earlier he took part in a graduation ceremony, as he officially finished high school, whilst indicating his intent is to continue his studies, with his studies to begin again in April at the Nagoya Institute of Industry.
Although a world champion Takayama has been inactive recently due to facial damage, and due to his inability to return to action we recently had an interim title fight, that saw Tatsuya Fukuhara (19-4-6, 7) [福原 辰弥] take a split decision win over Moises Calleros (25-7-1, 14). Takayama sent his congratulations to Fukuhara, with the two men being given 180 days to face off.
The facial damage of Takayama's, as well as the studying, has left Takayama's boxing future in an undecided fate and it seems like the damage to his face is taking longer to heal than expected. Potentially that could end up with Takayama beign stripped of his title, and spending a lengthy amount of time out of the ring, if not potentially ending his career. He admitted he has not been in the gym recently, and that he was havign to reasses his future in the ring. Something that was also alluded to by Fukuhara's team yesterday.
