Back in April we reported that Puerto Rican media were suggesting that a bout between Japanese warrior Yoshihiro Kamegai (27-3-2, 24) [亀海喜寛] and Puerto Rican icon Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33) was close to being a done deal. The past few days saw a few stumbling blocks for that bout, however earlier today the bout was, finally, confirmed with a date, venue and title all set for the two men, who we now know will be fighting on a Golden Boy Promotions show.
The bout will take place on On August 26th, with HBO backing the bout, which will take place at the Stub Hub center in Carson California, one of the venue that typically produces some special contests time and time again.
The bout will see the two men face off for the currently vacant WBO Light Middleweight title, with Cotto looking to begin a new title reign, following reigns at 140, 14y7, 154 and 160lbs, and Kamegai lookign for his first reign as a world champion.
On paper the bout is expected to be an easy win for the popular Puerto Ricam star, who is still one of the biggest names in the sport but he's certainly got miles on the clock and Kamgeia, whilst limited, is no easy out given his never say die attitude.
The under-card hasn't yet been announced but there is hope that Kamegai will be joined by at least ne other Japanese fighter
