Earlier today saw the Japanese award winners for January being announced.
The MVP for the month was Hiroki Okada (11-0, 9) [岡田 博喜] who scored a notable stoppage win over Masanobu Nakazawa on January 16th. That win saw Okada returning to the ring after 10 months out to unify the JBC 140 "real" title with the interim title, that Nakazawa had won last year. Following the win it was announced that Okada would be back in the ring in April to defend his crown against Koichi Aso.
The Fighting Spirit award was won by the newly crowned Welterweight champion Nobuyuki Shindo (17-3-1, 6) [新藤 寛之], who scored his most notable win to date by over-coming Yasuhiro Okawa on January 20th. The win saw Shindo becoming the champion at the second attempt. Sadly for Shindo his time to celebrate is going to be short lived as he returns on April 28th to face the big punching Toshio Arikawa.
Due to the lack of activity during January there was no winner of the State of the Art award.
