We've known for a while that former 2-weight world champion Hozumi Hasegawa (34-5, 15) would be fighting on December 11th at the Kobe Central Gym as he continues to look for one more world title fight. Until this morning however we had no idea who that bout would be against or even what weight the contest would take place at.
This morning Shinsei announced that Hasegawa's bout would be against Mexico's once beaten Carlos Andres Ruiz Machuca (14-1, 5), who is a 22 year old Super Featherweight, who currently holds the WBO Latino title at 130lbs.
From what we under-stand the bout will be fought at the Super Featherweight limit and will see Hasegawa making his debut at 130lbs in what he is considering a move into the "unknown" in regards to how hard fighters punch and how good he will feel at the weight.
Best known for his run as the WBC Bantamweight champion Hasegawa has made it known that he would like another world title bout, in the hope of becoming a 3-weight world champion. This bout is a test of the water against a man who is ranked #5 by the WBO, mostly due to his Latino title rather than any major win.
This bout will act as the co-feature of the show along with the recently announced IBF female Minimumweight title bout between Etsuko Tada and Victoria Argueta. It's now known that the card will also feature the very promising Reiya Konishi, who fights in an 8 rounder as he continues to build towards a Japanese title fight.
