Earlier today we had one of those bouts set.
The bout in question will see destructive Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30) putting his WBA "super", IBO and WBA "interim" Middleweight titles on the line against another destroyer, Canadian David Lemieux (34-2, 31), who himself holds the IBF Middleweight title.
The bout will be a unification bout and the next step in Golovkin's plans to become the sole ruler of the 160lb weight class. Not only is it a unification contest, but it's also a match up between two of the most explosive and heaviest handed fighters in the sport.
Coming in to the bout Golovkin will be bringing an incredible 91% KO rate will Lemieux isn't much behind at 86%.
Given the styles and power of the two men involved this bout really shouldn't be anything other than mouth watering when the men style in the ring. We don't expect it to last long, and it could well be a "blink and you miss it" fight but the potential action should be amazing as long as the fight lasts. It's probably only going to be the shortness of the bout that prevents it from being a FOTY candidate, but we'd not be shocked if we saw a round of the year contender in this one before the end comes.
