One of those fighters who appears to be stuck is WBO #1 ranked contender Genesis Servania (26-0, 11). Since the new year he has been waiting for an eliminator though seen fights fall through, such as one with Hungarian Zsolt Bedak, who will instead fight Leo Santa Cruz in a non-title affair.
The situation has become that frustrating that last week the WBO announced that they were ordering an eliminator bout between Servania and the #6 ranked Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr (29-3-1, 9). Strangely whilst this is plan B for the WBO it does look like a much better bout than one involving Bedak, though questions do need to be asked regarding Sanchez's ranking, considering he has fought just twice in the last 18 months. One of those bouts was a KO loss, at Super Flyweight, to Zolani Tete whilst the other was a decision win, back in March, against the limited Luis Melendez, who is now 0-9 outside of his native Colombia.
As for when this bout will be made, there is no cut and dry date though the WBO did send out a letter dated April 16th to both promoters and gave a 15 day window before they would be calling purse bids on the bout. Essentially saying that the bout will go to purse bids at the start of May. Hopefully that means the bout will be held in the summer and the winner will move onto a fight with the talent Cuban sensation who hasn't fought since his December 31st victory over Hisashi Amagasa in Japan.
