Earlier today on Thai Channel 7 fans saw one of the most promising Thai fighters successfully recording his first title defense.
The fighter in question was the talented and unbeaten Eaktawan Mor Krungthepthonburi (6-0, 5) who retained his title with a 4th round victory over Filipino foe Edison Berwela (13-29-7, 3). Sadly however the win didn't come how Eaktawan had hoped.
In the opening round Eaktawan took immediate control of the fight, assuming the centre ring and forcing Berwela to back with his back against the ropes. The output from both was low though it seemed clear Eaktawan was in charge as picked his spots and went to the body taking little in return from the Filipino visitor. Round after round Eaktawan moved up through the gears and in round 3 it seemed that Berwela wasn't going to see the distance, his face was swollen and he was looking like he was being broken down.
Whilst Berwela was being broken down he was also showing his bravery and trying to slow the Thai with his own shots. Sadly it was one of those shots that ended the bout with Berwela suffering what appeared to be a nasty hand or arm injury that left him in pure agony. As the bout was being waved off and Berwela was being given a look over by the doctors it appeared that the Filipino was trying his hardest to starve off tears. Knowing that Berwela is a tough guy it would seem that this injury is a very nasty one and we wish him a speedy recovery.
Eaktawan might not have been satisfied with the manner of the victory though will know that a win is a win at the end of the day and will happily take the W despite the poor manner in which it came.
