Earlier today Filipino fans saw the exciting, and hard hitting, Romero Duno (9-0, 8) claim his first professional title as he saw off the highly experienced Jason Egera (21-17, 10) to claim the Philippines Boxing Federation (PBF) Super Featherweight title.
Duno got off to the perfect start, dropping Egera in the first round, and despite a spirited fight back from Egera he was down again the following round. Those knockdowns lead to Duno having a very comfortable lead on the cards but Egera wasn't going to just fold and tried fight back.
The fight back came at a cost and in round 6 the veteran was down again, with it being very clear that Duno was too heavy handed for him to really compete with, not a surprise given that Egera was naturally a much smaller man.
Egera's fight back was finally finished between rounds 7 and 8 with an injury to Egera's arm forcing him to retire in his corner.
The ending was relatively anti-climatic, but it was a merciful ending for Egera who has now suffered 7 stoppage defeats. For Duno this was a 7th straight stoppage win and the 20 year old really does look like he could go a very long way.
