Earlier today in Indonesia fans had the chance to see the long awaited return to the ring of the highly popular, and often exciting, Daud Cino Yordan (33-3-0-1, 24). The heavy handed Indonesian had been inactive for more than a year following various issues that had caused him to have several fights cancelled and had seen him stripped of the IBO Lightweight title. Rather than fight against a soft touch Yordan took on former OPBF Super Featherweight champion Ronald Pontillas (17-7-3, 8), a talented but frustrating Filipino who could beat really good fighters, such as Masao Nakamura, or lose to journeymen, such as such as Edgar Gabejan and Jonel Alibio.
Yordan seemed to quickly shake his ring rust and applied constant pressure. His intention wasn't just to win, but to win in style with intense pressure and relentless aggression. Pontillas tried to use his legs, avoid a tear up. Unfortunately for the Filipino he was unable to get the respect of Yordan who just walked through everything thrown in his direction and eventually a sickening body shot finished off Pontillas, who ended in agony.
For the Filipino this was just the second time he has been stopped in 27 bouts, and his first stoppage loss since June 2008, when Sonny Gonzalez took him out in 9 rounds. Whilst for Yordan this saw him claiming the interim WBO Asia Pacific Lightweight title
For those wanting to see the bout it can be seen in full below.
