Earlier this month we reported that Japanese youngster Daigo Higa (7-0, 7) would be making his first defense of the WBC Youth Flyweight on November 7th. At the time of that report there had been no opponent named and all we knew was that Higa would be fighting for the first time since his sensational win over Kongfah CP Freshmart in Thailand, in what is widely regarded as Higa's "break out win".
Today however sources in Okinawa have informed us that Higa's opponent has been named, and is a tough test for the youngster.
That opponent is is Filipino 23 year old Renren Tesorio (15-6-3, 4), a tough but light hitting challenger who has claimed titles of his own in the past, including the GAB Light Flyweight crown.
Tesorio may not be the most impressive opponent on paper but over the last 2 years he has surprised us giving Toshiyuki Igarashi a tough test last year and going 1-1 with the under-rated Benezer Alolod.
With a couple of stoppage losses to his name it's clear that Higa will smell blood from the off but this really isn't a forgone conclusion for the aggressive youngster.
