In a recent interview Japanese Olympian Ryota Murata (2-0, 2) has said that he has been working to improve his defense. Murata, who has so far had to take more shots than he'd have liked, has been pretty stationary with his head and has relied on his strength and toughness to just walk through shots.
In his latest training camp however Murata has been working on adding head movement to his arsenal. Although we're not expecting to see him become a bob-and-weave expert it's good that Murata is trying to lower the amount of shots he is forced to take. Plenty did comment on whether or not he'd have been in trouble had Akio Shibata or Dever Peterson been punchers. With Carlos Nascimento being a power puncher it's fair to say that Murata won't be wanting to be hit clean too often and adding to his defense will be a key part of training for his future.
As well as his new defensive tools it also seems like Murata is going to be trying out some various new gear. We had already reported that he was going to be wearing Cleto Reyes gloves, custom trainers made by Under Armour and now it seems he'll be wearing shorts that combine the Japanese flag with a gold theme. We've yet to see these but they have managed to make news in Japan.
