In June 2014 we saw Filipino fighter Ardin Diale (28-9-3, 14) set the Korakuen Hall on fire courtesy of an exceptionally well fought and hugely dramatic OPBF title bout with Koki Eto. In that bout, which can be seen in full below, Diale came up short courtesy of a terrific comeback from Eto in the 8th round, a potential ROTY candidate.
Today he returned to the Korakuen Hall, the holy ground of Japanese boxing, and took on Yuta Matsuo (7-2-1, 4) in another enthralling and brilliantly competitive bout that had drama, exchanges and everything a boxing fan could want to see.
The bout saw both men landing shots at close quarters as they went back and forth in an action affair that acted as the the shows main support bout. In the end however it was Diale's extra class and higher level of experience that helped him take the win with an amazingly close split decision. The two judges that went with Diale did saw with the same score, 78-75, whilst a dissenting judge had it 76-77 Matsuo, who's 2 fight winning run came to an end.
Impressively for Diale this is his 5th straight win since being stopped by Eto and it now seems like a rematch could be around the corner with the Filipino being the #1 contender for the OPBF title, which is still held by Eto.
