Former IBF Flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng (17-1, 5) [อำนาจ รื่นเริง] has had an interesting 12 months. Just over a year ago he lost the IBF title to John Riel Casimero in China, he followed that up be qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics and then fighting in a number of kick boxing fights.
Earlier this month it was revealed that he will now return to professional boxing, and will feature on a small card in Laguna, Philippines on June 23rd.
Originally it was reported that Amnat would be up against Boy Dondee Pumar (10-8-3, 4) but it now appears that Pumar is out of the bout and has been replaced by veteran Danilo Pena (27-27-5, 11), who has spent the past few years fighting at Featherweight and upwards, suggesting he could have a clear size advantage over the Thai.
The bout will be promoted by Jaro boxing and whilst it's hard to say what Amnat actually has left, it does seem a peculiar fight for for him to take given there is nothing left for the 37 year old fighter to prove.
